| April 2007 What’s under your bridge?
By Ron J. Nowakowski
How many of you remember from your childhood, the story called the Three Billy Goats Gruff? These three Billy Goats had to, every day, cross a bridge to get to there lush feeding fields.
Under this bridge lived a scary, ugly, and very mean troll. The Billy Goats would get half way across the bridge and the troll would crawl out from under the bridge and try to eat one of them.
Giving this some thought, from within us, imagine our own selves. How many of you have seemingly been half way across a person’s bridge (getting to know them) only to experience a frontal verbal attack. Almost, as if it came from out of nowhere. What trolls and monsters dwell under that person’s bridge?
What is under your bridge that could pop out the nasty in you?
How can we keep our bridges clean and free from dangerous and hurtful aggression? How do we maintain fresh air and clear sparkling water under our bridge of life?
I believe by simply living a life of truth. Secondly, by using empathy with other people you meet to ensure we do not make their life’s run harder than maybe it has been. We should always strive to give energy, not take it away. The third and most important is to believe that life is meant to be a gift and the power of positive thinking will always win the day. Remember, negative attracts negative.
Some of life’s challenges can be or will be horrendous at times but the power inside of you can handle it if you allow it to while making thoughtful decisions. It is said that life will not give you more than you can handle. You will also if alert learn from every hardship that you are forced to experience.
I, for one have crossed some very scary bridges in my time and have seen some very ugly trolls. Something to ponder, trolls are folklore and figments of our imagination. They are not real. They just manifest themselves to say “boo” when we least expect it. In other words they take us by surprise. We are never fully ready for those sudden “in your face” confrontations.
What we always need to be ready for is ensuring that our self confidence is strong. We must also trust that truth is our constant inner core strength. Once solidly in place the world will know that we will not be tampered with. This can be called your life’s “right of passage.”
After all, you chose it for a reason, didn’t you? Always remember, ALL healing begins and ends with truth.
